Canada's Job Market and Economic Growth

Canada's population was 35 million people as of 2016. The growing population allows Canada to have one of the largest economies in the world, ranking 11th as of 2015. The country's GDP hovered around $1.79 trillion at the time.

A great place to work, the country is a highly globalized entity and has low income disparity levels. Disposable income per capita for a household is $23,900. The country's Toronto Stock Exchange is also very strong, with over 1,500 companies and market capitalization of over $2 trillion. Formerly rural, the country's growth has allowed it to move into an industrial, urbanized entity. The country is dominated by the services industry, which accounts for 75% of the country's workforce. Canada's other major sectors with jobs available, include:

  • Mining
  • Manufacturing
  • Forestry
  • Petroleum

Large gas and oil reserves as well as being a net exporter of energy allow Canada to remain a stable country with a large integration with the United States. The 2008 recession hurt the company's labor market, with 162,000 full-time jobs lost between 2008 and 2010. Net debt rose to $194 billion. Strict regulatory controls allowed Canada's economy to suffer less than other G8 countries and has returned to modest growth. The return to growth in 2015 has led to a spur in job availability in the country.
